Why pixellarry? My name is Larry Kasperek. I am a photographer.
I researched lots of cute word combinations before landing on this. We all know what a pixel is (picture element), but did you know that a larry is a hoe with a perforated blade for mixing mortar or plaster? I didn't.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let me explain what this is about. I've flirted with blogging before, not with much success. When I tried, it was related to my employment, and that made it more of a marketing tool, and that made it like work. Also, I felt somewhat restricted in my opinions. Let’s just say my food reviews of local high school concession stands did not fare well.
I was inspired by my daughter, who has had a blog for a couple of years now and it’s a pleasure to read. It fills me in on her life away from home. Although I think sometimes she shares a bit too much. I think she may get that from me.
Opinions will not include religion or politics. Those are the only two areas I'm calling off-limits. Other than that it will generally be about photography. And some other tangents.
I'm not going to post my resumé, but in a phraseburst™ - first camera at 12, built darkroom in parent’s basement, high school yearbook, degree in Photojournalism from Mizzou, newspaper photographer/photo editor/director of photography, married, children, self-employed business owner, artist.
During the course of these missives, more details will be filled in. Feel free to Google me, I can’t stop you (http://tinyurl.com/4l3xmca). Sorry, that sounded a bit awkward. I am not, and have never been, a lawyer, that’s someone else.
To you gearheads:
Digital - I shoot Nikon, presently a D7000 when burning pixels, a Canon G9 for my everywhere camera.
Analog - A Robert Rigby 4x5 pinhole camera, and several homemade pinhole cameras for film and paper. Apple user since '86.
Thanks for stopping by.
